Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Schools Affiliate Scheme

The aim of the scheme is to support the teaching of the materials, minerals and mining related topics in science and design technology from Key Stage 3 to post-16 level, and to raise awareness and promote materials science, technology and engineering as a challenging, exciting and rewarding career option.
The scheme has an annual cost of £30, but is well worth it.

They operate a range of activities from providing advice and resources for teaching to sponsorship of research. They also sponsor a number of student design awards.

The Challenge of Materials website offers information and resources on Materials Selection, how things are made, world-changing materials and also contains an interactive card-matching flash game, with information on each card relating to a material.
